Her mother immigrated to America in the year 1958 as an immigrant from Germany. Breast cancer was discovered in the year 1989. Handler died 10 years after battling cancer. Handler was brought up in Reform Judaism by her father who was Jewish. Handler was raised in a lovely neighborhood and had a happy childhood. Her move from the city of her birth to Los Angeles when she was aged 19 in order to pursue a career in acting. Handler started acting for income. Handler's storytelling ability was discovered when she reached the age of 21. Handler then decided to devote her full-time career in stand-up comedy. Handler's stand-up career began when she was part of the all-female Oxygen television cast on the hidden camera/practical humor reality show Girls Behaving Unsteadily. This reality TV show ran from 2002 until 2005. Handler then started appearing on other TV shows such as Weekends at the D.L., The Bernie Mac Show, The Practice and My Wife and Kids. Handler was also a an associate on The Tonight Show. Handler got her big break in 2006 when she began running her own talk show for E! called The Chelsea Handler show. The show lasted 2 seasons. Handler performed on Comedy Central's Hour Stand-Up Comedy Tour the next year in the United States. VH1, Comedy Central Premium Blend, HBO and Comedy Central have all broadcasted her stand-up shows. In 2010, she was tapped as host of the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. Roseanne was the first female ever to host a VMA.
